Shield
The telephone pole symbolizes the functions of the Battalion, the four circuits represent the four components of the organization (the two construction companies, the Headquarters Company and the Medical Detachment).
Crest
The crest commemorates the organization's distinguished service in the Philippines during World War II, and in Korea. The unit's six decorations, two for the Philippines and four for Korea are represented by the two horns of the carabao and the four apertures of the temple. The colors, blue and red, refer to the awards of the Presidential Unit Citation and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 440th Signal Construction Battalion on 7 January 1943. It was redesignated for the 440th Signal Battalion on 19 March 1962. The coat of arms was amended to add a crest on 3 October 1974.
